Which Wolf Do You Feed?

A Grandmother was teaching her granddaughter about life… “A fight is going on inside me,” she said to the girl. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. “One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego. “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. “This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The granddaughter thought about it for a minute and then asked her grandmother, “Which wolf will win?” The grandmother simply replied, “The one you feed.” I love that parable for so many reasons. For me it represents the choices we have in life. We always have the choice to look at whatever is happening at any given moment as either positive or negative. And at any moment we can choose to change our mindset about what’s going on to one of positivity & learning. We can choose to dwell on what’s ‘not’ good in our life or choose to see the awesomeness that it is. And the choice is always yours. There was a family member in my life who always choose to look at the negative. Like, always. I’d even ask her, why not look at it like this? But she couldn’t. Or wouldn’t. She was constantly feeding the ‘bad’ wolf. In conversations there was a lot of ‘yeah but….’ followed by something negative. It was exhausting. To me it takes up WAY too much energy to always focus on the bad. Not saying that I don’t…I have many...

Life as a Single Mom

I love how life can be so awesome-sauce sometimes:)  I recently had a fantastic opportunity to be featured by Suzy Shier in a tribute to single moms. Basically, they wanted to interview single moms they think are awesome to see how they manage it all. And I was fortunate enough to be one of the moms they choose to feature!:) The whole experience was fantastic! Of course my girls were a main part of it and they had a great experience too. And we were treated so well! From the shopping day right to the photo shoot with Emmett Sparling, it was just a ton of fun. Out of it all, I had the most fun being interviewed:) Those of you who know me know I live my life as authentically as possible. To me that means being 100% me, warts and all (I don’t actually have warts FYI;). So when I answered the questions, I choose to be completely honest. Maybe that’s not a big deal to people but to me it is. I could have waxed on poetically about how I have it all together & fit everything in & how easy it is to be a single mom, but that would’ve been a big load of crap. So, I told it as it is, as I experience it. Anyways, you can read all about it here on their website blog www.suzyshier.tumblr.com (Scroll right down to the bottom. I’m like their first blog post:)  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did answering...

Things I can’t live without.

They say it’s the little things in life that bring the most joy & I gotta say I agree. I was thinking about this the other day. About all the little things that help to make my day awesome. The little things I just couldn’t live without. You know what I’m talking about here…the little things that bring a smile to your face and make you say ‘ahhhh’. Just for fun I’m going to write down all the things that help to provide me with a joyful day. (It goes without saying that my 3 girls are #1 on my list but this post is just about the little things in our day.) Here goes in no particular order. My morning coffee – I absolutely can’t live without that sweet elixir of life:) I have a whole ritual built around it. I use a french press, no Nespresso for me. Sometimes I go to bed excited about my morning coffee. It just tastes so damn good. I usually add 1 tsp on coconut oil to it and that just makes it even yummier. I really love a Sunday morning when I can make my coffee then snuggle back into bed. The best! My morning 16 ounces of room temperature lemon water – This is also part of my coffee ritual. While the water is boiling for my coffee, I drink a big mason jar full of water I got ready the night before. I like the water/lemon combo to be the first thing in my body, hydrating it before the coffee hits it. Now my body craves that water first thing & I...
