This is why you keep self-sabotaging

You keep making the same choices. That’s why you’re not getting results. And it’s why you keep having to start over. Ultimately, if you want to change any aspect of your life, you have to start making different choices. If you keep making the same choices, you will keep getting the same results.‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over but expecting different results’. (Interesting fact: This quote is often attributed to Albert Einstein, but he actually never said that. Look it up;) And we know this, but WHY do we keep making the same choices? All of the above. Here’s a story for you. Suzie has been wanting to get fit for quite some time now. Currently, she’s super busy with kids, work, volunteering, etc. etc. So, right now she can only get to 1-2 fitness classes a week. That’s great for her but she really wants to up her exercise and fit in at least 5 workouts a week. She’s also very keen on changing her eating habits by eliminating wine in the evening and stop snacking. She figures out that she could add extra workouts into her week on her lunch hour and 1 day on a weekend. She also decides she won’t drink any wine that week and will get rid of all the junk food in the house. All is well the first week. She gets her workouts in, sticks with healthy eating and feels awesome & successful. ‘I’ve got this‘, is her mantra. The 2nd week starts out with great intention but then on day 3, she’s stressed and tired...

Time To Get Your Shit Together:)

Okay, people…..the kids are back at school and settled, summer is clearly over and so now that leaves you. It is time to get your shit together and set up your fall fitness & health routine. Those of you who know me know that I LOVE September. Not for the weather or the changing colours and all that other poetic stuff people wax on about. Yes, the leaves are pretty, I’ll give you that but I am perfectly happy with summer weather all year round. I LOVE September because, for me, it’s OPPORTUNITY! September signals new and fresh. It’s the beginning of a new year and it’s when I feel most creative and productive. Yes, January is the actual ‘new year’ but September has always been more of the new year to me than January. This September is especially exciting for me because I moved from where I lived for 18 years to the city. I took a leap of faith and literally jumped from the pond to the ocean. And I’m super excited about it. (Sometimes I feel nauseous about it too but mainly excited;) Anywho….after a summer of no routine, alcoholic beverages (hello Nudes!), yummy BBQs, chips, chilling & beaching it, it is time for us to get our shit together! Have you registered for fitness classes yet? Or have figured out in your schedule where you can fit fitness in? Have you hired a personal trainer yet? Or a life coach? What are you doing to work toward your health & fitness goals this fall season? If you want to be really successful with your fitness &...

No change = no growth

Today I have mixed emotions. I just dropped my first-born off at the airport. She is going to college in Toronto and is starting a whole new life journey for herself. Definitely, have some sadness around it. I remember her tiny little hands and her great big eyes looking at me for everything. So full of love and life and wonder. And today when I dropped her off, I saw those same eyes with those same feelings. Except add in a twinge of fear. I am proud of the job I’ve done as her mother. I’m proud of the young lady she is. I am proud that she has the courage and grit to get out there and do her own thing while following her passion. Not a lot of people have that kind of bravery. She’s had to deal with a lot of flack about choosing acting as her career and has questioned it at times but man, you just don’t know until you try. But I’m sad as well. The time with her has flown by. She’s blossomed into this super fun, exuberant person that’s a joy to be around. And then she moves! Well, at least I get to travel to a super cool city to visit her:) My whole family is going through a big change, not just her. We moved off our little island into the city recently. It’s a very welcome change, but a change nonetheless. And with change comes uncomfortableness. It’s uncomfortable packing, unpacking, and organizing. It’s uncomfortable giving up the familiar to step into unfamiliar. It’s uncomfortable not being able to...

What’s The Worst Thing That Could Happen?

This is the question I ask myself almost daily. It gets me through some tough decision making and it helps me to put myself out there on a regular basis. Here’s the thing…I have an amazing amount of great ideas. And they usually involve me in some very public position of either speaking or leading. I also suffer from anxiety and an inner bitch voice telling me I’m not good enough to do this or that. But I made a decision long ago that I wasn’t going to listen to that voice nor would I keep myself small. That means, going forward with these ideas and putting them out there. That’s when ‘what’s the worst thing that could happen?’ comes in. Let’s put it into practice with this example. Here’s my inner creative voice talking…..’Fawn, you should start a woman’s run club in your neighborhood that meets weekly for a 30 min run and then have coffee/tea with them. This way, you’ll get exercise and meet new friends.’ (I recently moved from Bowen Island to North Vancouver and want to meet new friends here.) Me, ‘Yeah, that sounds like a really great idea! I should do that! I could meet so many women and work out and get to know the neighbourhood! It’d be awesome.’ Inner Bitch…’Seriously? Who would join that? Probably no one. You’ll look so stupid and no one will join and no one will like you. Besides, you’re no runner.’ So that conversation cycles over and over in my head for about an hour. LOL. What I have learned to do through lots of practice, is...

Workout at Home!

Yay for summer! It’s my favourite season because…..SUN & HEAT! Living on the West Coast makes me feel pretty soggy by the end of winter/spring. I just love how summer warms up my bones and gets me ready to handle another wet, cold season. Plus I LOVE the bright mornings and longer evenings. I can really only come up with positive things about summer except for one thing…. the lack of routine. Once the kids are out of school and the days get longer and you spend more time on the beach, it’s almost impossible to stick to a dedicated fitness routine. Not to mention all the extra delicious snacky food and beverages that are everywhere. Oh, and patios! How fun are patios??? So what can one do to maintain their fitness routine? Workout at home! Here’s a truth bomb: It’s more important that you stay consistent with your routine than what you do during your workout. Do you get that? If you just drop exercise altogether, getting back into it is way harder than before. BUT if you keep working out consistency, it doesn’t matter what type of exercise you’re doing. With that in mind, I have created an at-home no-equipment needed workout you can do in under 30 minutes. It’s flowy and fun and will make you sweat. Don’t think this will be some easy workout. Nope. It’ll challenge you  to work your body and even sweat a bit;) Here’s what you get with this package…..a workout sheet so you can keep track of your workouts, a video to accompany the workout sheet so you know exactly how...

Green Eggs & Avocado Scramble

First, I have to tell you there’s not going to be a million pictures of me making this dish. OMG I can’t stand those recipe blogs where you have to scroll down the page for approximately 1 whole day to get to the actual recipe & directions. Just give me the goods! I don’t need a picture of an avocado. I know what they look like! Also, I’m not a pretty cook. Wait! I’m pretty, it’s just my cooking is not. (LOL;) It’s messy and I use a lot of dishes and I get stuff all over the place. Nobody  needs to see that mess. Another reason I don’t add a gazillion pictures is I get this major feeling of ‘fail’ when I see how pretty someone else has made a dish look and mine, although always yummy, does not look like that at all! I don’t want you to feel that way so you get a real picture, in real time, of what I’ve made. In my recipe blogs, you’ll get 1 picture of the dish I make and if you’re lucky, it will look pretty. Deal? K, good. But seriously, be your own creative chef…it does not have to look exactly like mine. One of my go-to every-day breakfast meals is Green Eggs & Avocado Scramble. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this dish and seriously eat it almost daily when I don’t have to rush (on my rushing days it’s usually 2 hard-boiled eggs). Not only is this recipe friggin delicious, it’s super easy to make and pretty economical as well if you don’t use the avocado. This...
